Parliament Has Sole Authority to Legislate: Info Minister


Lahore: Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has stated that parliament, as the supreme institution, holds the exclusive authority to legislate and amend the constitution. Addressing media queries in Lahore regarding the 27th constitutional amendment, he affirmed that a comprehensive discussion took place and the due process was adhered to.



According to Radio Pakistan, the Information Minister emphasized that the establishment of a federal constitutional court is a component of the vision laid out in the Charter of Democracy, aimed at ensuring swift justice for the general populace. In response to inquiries about judicial appointments, he stressed that such appointments will be predicated on merit and legal competence, devoid of personal biases.



The Information Minister also acknowledged the contributions and sacrifices of security forces in the fight against terrorism. He noted that the Intelligence Bureau and CTD have apprehended the handlers and facilitators linked to the recent terrorist attack in Islamabad. These individuals are currently under investigation, with noted advancements in the case.



He further mentioned that the Pakistan Army successfully rescued five hundred and fifty students from Wana Cadet College and neutralized all terrorists involved. He remarked that terrorists are targeting softer areas due to their inability to confront more fortified targets. He assured that national security remains robust and expressed optimism for the restoration of peace in Pakistan.
