Pakistan’s Deterrence Based on Professional Competence: President

Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has emphasized that Pakistan's response during the Marka-e-Haq was precise and proportionate, sending an unambiguous message. In his remarks on the first commemoration of Marka-e-Haq, he stated that a year ago, Pakistan faced a significant challenge and demonstrated resilience.

According to Radio Pakistan, the President highlighted that the events of April and May last year were not just military episodes but moments of national reckoning. He recounted how Pakistan responded with discipline and unity when India launched unprovoked strikes as part of the Pahalgam false flag operation, targeting civilian areas and military installations.

President Zardari commended Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos, which was pivotal to Marka-e-Haq, showcasing the capabilities of Pakistan's armed forces backed by national unity. He asserted that the operation demonstrated Pakistan's deterrence, rooted in professional competence and coordination among the armed services.

The President paid tribute to the men and women in uniform and honored the martyrs, asserting that every Pakistani becomes a soldier when war is imposed. He remarked that Pakistan is recognized as a state capable of defending itself and as a guarantor of peace and stability.

In light of recent tensions in West Asia, President Zardari noted Pakistan's role in facilitating a ceasefire between the United States and Iran, contributing to regional stability through responsible diplomacy. He affirmed Pakistan's ongoing efforts to promote peace and dialogue.

He reiterated that the Kashmir dispute is central to regional instability, urging a just resolution in line with United Nations Security Council resolutions. He criticized India's suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, viewing it as weaponization of water and a threat to livelihoods, vowing to defend Pakistan's water rights.

President Zardari also addressed terrorism, underscoring Pakistan's commitment to eradicating it and ensuring Afghan territory is not used against Pakistan, as per the Doha framework. He emphasized that Pakistan seeks no conflict but will not tolerate coercive behavior, advocating for sovereignty and international law.

Finally, he reflected on Marka-e-Haq as a defining moment etched into national consciousness, symbolizing the strength of a nation aware of its worth and prepared to defend it.
