Pakistan Urges Sudan, South Sudan to Renew Dialogue to Peacefully Resolve Abyei Dispute

Islamabad: Pakistan has urged Sudan and South Sudan to renew dialogue to peacefully resolve the Abyei dispute. At the UN Security Council, Pakistan’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Usman Jadoon, emphasized that political engagement remains the only sustainable solution.

According to Radio Pakistan, Ambassador Jadoon highlighted the importance of dialogue between the two nations to address the longstanding issue over the Abyei region, which has been a point of contention since South Sudan’s independence in 2011. He urged both parties to engage in sincere negotiations to find a peaceful resolution and avoid further escalation of tensions in the region.

The Abyei area, rich in oil resources, has been a flashpoint for conflict between Sudan and South Sudan, with both nations laying claim to the territory. Ambassador Jadoon’s call for renewed dialogue underscores the international community’s concern over the potential for instability in the region if the dispute remains unresolved. The ambassador’s remarks at the UN Security Council reflect Pakistan’s commitment to promoting peace and stability in conflict-prone areas through diplomatic efforts.
