Pakistan Reaffirms Support for Saudi Arabia’s Sovereignty at UN Meeting

Islamabad: At the United Nations, Pakistan has reaffirmed its unwavering support for Saudi Arabia's sovereignty, territorial integrity, security, and prosperity. The resolve was expressed by Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, during a UN Security Council Arria Formula meeting on "Safe Seas, Shared Security: Protecting Freedom of Navigation in an Evolving Security Environment."

According to Radio Pakistan, the ambassador strongly condemned attacks by the Houthi militia on merchant shipping and seafarers in the Bab al-Mandab Strait. He emphasized that such attacks and disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz highlight the potential for maritime crises to have significant impacts on global peace, stability, energy security, and food security.

Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad called for an immediate de-escalation of tensions, ensuring the security of ships and crew members, and the restoration of normal passage through the Strait.
