Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has announced Pakistan’s readiness to collaborate with fellow United Nations Member States and the UN system in order to reinvigorate the UN Charter’s promise of pursuing peace, development, and human dignity for all.
According to Radio Pakistan, in his message on the occasion of United Nations Day, Dar emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to multilateralism as the country celebrates the 80th anniversary of the UN Charter. He highlighted the UN Charter’s affirmation of collective resolve to uphold international law and the right to self-determination. He expressed concern over the ongoing violations of these ideals, particularly in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and Palestine.
Dar condemned the denial of the Kashmiri people’s legitimate aspirations for self-determination, as upheld by relevant UN Security Council resolutions, and criticized the brutal repression by India. He also pointed out the grave humanitarian crisis in Gaza, describing it as a graveyard for shared humanity and global conscience.
Guided by the vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Dar stated that Pakistan’s foreign policy is rooted in the principles of the UN Charter, including the sovereign equality of states, non-interference, the right to self-determination, and the peaceful settlement of disputes. He emphasized Pakistan’s historical preference for diplomacy over confrontation and engagement over isolation.
Dar highlighted Pakistan’s longstanding commitment to multilateralism, demonstrated through decades of active engagement with the UN system. As one of the top troop-contributing countries to UN peace operations since 1960 and host to one of the oldest peacekeeping missions, the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP), Pakistan has shown its dedication to global peace efforts.
He noted Pakistan’s ongoing role as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2025-26 term, reiterating the country’s commitment to building a more peaceful, just, and prosperous world. Dar also mentioned Pakistan’s reputation as a consensus builder and its active role in promoting the principles of the UN Charter, which enables the country to work towards outcomes reflecting the aspirations and priorities of the wider UN membership.
