New york: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that Pakistan is prepared to engage in a comprehensive and results-oriented dialogue with India to resolve all outstanding issues. He made these remarks while addressing the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister emphasized the need for proactive leadership in South Asia, rather than provocative actions. He reiterated that after emerging victorious in a recent conflict with India, Pakistan is now focused on achieving peace. Sharif criticized India’s unilateral actions regarding the Indus Waters Treaty, declaring any violation as an act of war and asserting Pakistan’s right to defend its access to these crucial waters.
Addressing recent tensions, Sharif highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to peaceful dispute resolution through dialogue and diplomacy. He recalled a past warning against external aggression, noting Pakistan’s decisive response to unprovoked attacks from its eastern neighbor. He accused India of leveraging the Pahalgam incident for political gain while resorting to aggression against Pakistani territories.
The Prime Minister lauded the Pakistani armed forces’ professionalism and bravery under Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, particularly commending the Pakistan Air Force’s successful defense operations. He expressed gratitude to US President Donald Trump and other nations for their diplomatic support during the crisis.
Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s solidarity with the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, condemning India’s oppressive actions and advocating for Kashmir’s right to self-determination under UN supervision. He also voiced support for Palestine, condemning Israel’s actions in Gaza and endorsing the establishment of a Palestinian state.
The Prime Minister addressed the issue of terrorism, condemning it in all forms and highlighting Pakistan’s sacrifices in global counterterrorism efforts. He pointed to foreign-funded groups operating from Afghanistan as a significant threat and called for effective actions from the Afghan interim government to curb terrorism.
Sharif stressed the importance of regional stability and connectivity for development, urging for harmony and coexistence devoid of hate speech and discrimination. He highlighted the dangers of ideologies like Hindutva extremism and welcomed the UN’s efforts to combat Islamophobia.
On climate change, Sharif called for urgent collective action, detailing the severe impacts of recent floods in Pakistan. Despite its minimal contribution to global emissions, the country continues to face devastating climate-related challenges.
Finally, he highlighted Pakistan’s strategic partnership with China through the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to peace, justice, and multilateral cooperation within the United Nations framework.
