Islamabad: At the United Nations Pakistan has demanded an end to hostilities, the release of UN staff, and a renewal of diplomatic efforts in Yemen.
According to Radio Pakistan, the demand was made by Pakistan’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Usman Jadoon, during a UN Security Council briefing on Yemen. He urged the Security Council to take urgent and unified action against arbitrary detentions and the worsening famine conditions, emphasizing the need to renew diplomacy to prevent millions from sinking into despair.
Ambassador Jadoon highlighted the dire situation faced by the Yemeni people, who continue to suffer due to the devastating consequences of a prolonged conflict. He pointed out that political paralysis, economic collapse, and a severe humanitarian crisis have created one of the world’s most critical situations in Yemen.
The Deputy Permanent Representative of Pakistan called on the UN Security Council to fulfill its Charter responsibilities, facilitating and advancing the peace process. He stressed the importance of the Council speaking with one voice to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people, uphold the UN Charter, and pave the way for peace, stability, and prosperity in Yemen and the broader Middle East.
Reiterating Pakistan’s solidarity with Yemen, Ambassador Usman Jadoon declared that Pakistan is prepared to collaborate with all UN Security Council members to help forge a peaceful path forward.
