Islamabad: Pakistan and Iran have signed Memorandums of Understanding to enhance cooperation between the media industries of the two countries. The signing ceremony, held in Islamabad, was addressed by Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar. He highlighted that the MoUs, signed between Pakistan Television and Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting, as well as between PEMRA and the Iranian media regulatory authority, are expected to bolster media collaboration.
According to Radio Pakistan, Minister Attaullah Tarar emphasized the significance of the Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s visit to Pakistan, particularly his visit to the mausoleum of Allama Dr. Muhammad Iqbal in Lahore. This visit underscored the profound impact of Allama Iqbal’s work on Muslims globally and showcased the historical and religious bonds shared by the two nations.
The Information Minister remarked on the resilience demonstrated by both nations in recent conflicts and noted the supportive role of media in expressing solidarity. He expressed confidence that the agreements would strengthen the media ties between the countries and assured full cooperation with the Iranian media delegation. Tarar also mentioned that both sides would benefit from each other’s media experiences and emphasized the potential for collaboration in digital media.
Minister Tarar further noted the cultural and religious commonalities between Pakistan and Iran, advocating for enhanced people-to-people contacts. He expressed a strong commitment to elevating media cooperation to unprecedented levels.
Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri-Moghaddam remarked on the vital role of information and public diplomacy in strengthening bilateral relations. He stated that the MoUs would open new avenues of cooperation in the media sector and praised the Pakistani media’s role in Iran’s psychological warfare with Israel. The ambassador emphasized the deep-rooted trust, love, and mutual respect that define the relationship between the people of Iran and Pakistan.
