Abu dhabi: In a joint statement, the Foreign Ministers of the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Turkey, and Egypt have expressed strong condemnation of Israel's ongoing settlement policies in the occupied Palestinian territories. They have rejected the E1 settlement plan and related activities in East Jerusalem, highlighting these as violations of international law and United Nations resolutions, and a threat to regional and international peace.According to Union of OIC News Agencies, the ministers warned that the E1 settlement plan is a dangerous escalation that undermines the territorial continuity of the Palestinian territories, jeopardizing the viability of a Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. They emphasized that these actions challenge international peace efforts, including former President Donald Trump's peace plan, which opposes annexation and forced displacement. The ministers reiterated that a two-state solution, aligned with international law and UN resolutions, remains the only viable path to peace. They cautioned that undermining this solution would escalate tensions and threaten regional and international security, as well as the prospects for lasting peace. In their statement, the ministers expressed support for international accountability measures, including sanctions against those responsible for illegal settlements. They called for an end to support or funding that aids settlement expansion and emphasized that lack of accountability perpetuates violations and undermines peace prospects. The ministers urged immediate action to halt the E1 settlement plan, rescind measures within its framework, and cease all settlement activities. They called on the UN Security Council and international bodies to uphold their responsibilities and take effective measures to halt illegal settlement expansion, protect Palestinian rights, and support the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
