Martyrdom Anniversary of Major Tufail Shaheed Observed

Lahore: The 67th martyrdom anniversary of Major Tufail Muhammad Shaheed, Nishan-e-Haider, is being observed today. Major Tufail Muhammad Shaheed, who was born in Hoshiarpur city of the East Punjab on July 22, 1914, is remembered for his extraordinary bravery and sacrifice.

According to Radio Pakistan, in August 1958, Major Tufail Muhammad Shaheed was entrusted with the task of launching an offensive against Indian forces in the Lakshmipur area of the erstwhile East Pakistan. Despite being critically wounded, he led his troops with unwavering resolve and exceptional valour, successfully accomplishing his mission.

His heroic actions in the face of adversity earned him the nation's highest military honor, the Nishan-e-Haider, symbolizing unparalleled gallantry and supreme sacrifice. On this solemn occasion, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf, and Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu have all paid tribute to Major Tufail Muhammad Shaheed, recognizing his significant contributions and sacrifice for the nation.
