Islamabad: Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transforming Pakistan Railways (PR) into a modern and efficient service provider. Speaking at the Regional Transport Ministers’ International Conference in Islamabad today, he emphasized that ML-1 serves as the backbone of Pakistan Railways, handling eighty percent of passenger traffic and ninety percent of freight operations. He underscored the critical importance of its upgradation, noting that it would not only boost the railways’ operational capacity but also unlock new opportunities for regional connectivity.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Minister also highlighted the significance of upgrading ML-2, which plays a vital role in the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan Railway Corridor, a transformative initiative linking Pakistan’s seaports with the landlocked Central Asian Republics. He further said efforts are currently underway to upgrade ML-3, which connects Quetta to Taftan.
