Islamabad: Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja has reiterated the government's resolve to harness the true potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for national development. Addressing a ceremony related to Indus AI Week 2026 in Islamabad, she emphasized that the National AI Policy approved in 2025 is designed to transform Pakistan from a consumer to a leading producer of emerging technologies.
According to Radio Pakistan, the government has already started an AI Enablement Fund to further promote the AI sector. The government is focused on establishing an AI innovation ecosystem and infrastructure as well as spreading awareness. Highlighting public-private collaboration, the minister stated that the government will enable the private sector to accomplish several initiatives.
She highlighted several projects to promote AI in the country, which include the training of one million resources, three thousand AI scholarships per annum, and fifty AI civic projects. The government is also committed to introducing 5G services in the major cities of the country in the coming months.
