First Committee of UNGA’s 80th Session Approves Pakistan’s Four Key Resolutions

New york: The First Committee of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly has adopted Pakistan’s four resolutions. The Main Committee, which focuses on disarmament and international security, has unanimously approved two of these resolutions. Titled ‘Regional disarmament’ and ‘Confidence-building measures in the regional and sub-regional contexts’, these resolutions highlight the importance of security and trust in regional partnerships.

According to Radio Pakistan, the other two resolutions include ‘Conclusion of effective international arrangements to assure non nuclear-weapon States against the use or threat of use of nuclear weapons’ and ‘Conventional arms control at the regional and subregional levels’. Pakistan has been at the forefront of initiatives at the United Nations for many years, emphasizing nuclear disarmament, regional disarmament, conventional arms control, and Confidence-Building Measures.

The acceptance of these resolutions confirms the international community’s focus on negative security assurances and the adoption of regional strategies for disarmament and arms control. Pakistan remains committed to advancing these priorities at the United Nations and within other multilateral forums, such as the Conference on Disarmament, the United Nations Disarmament Commission, and the General Assembly’s First Committee.
