Finance Minister Aurangzeb Engages Moody’s on Economic Reforms in Bangkok

Bangkok:Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb met with representatives of Moody's alongside the World Bank Group-IMF Annual Meetings 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand.

According to Radio Pakistan, the discussions focused on the recent rating upgrade, improved fiscal and external indicators, and renewed access to international capital markets.

Aurangzeb detailed efforts to replace costly, short-term debt with financing of longer maturity without increasing the external debt stock. The delegation noted the rise in foreign exchange reserves, a contained current account deficit, and reduced State Bank forward liabilities.

The Finance Minister reaffirmed his commitment to structural reforms and sustainable, export-led growth beyond the current IMF programme. He also sought insights from Moody's on achieving a stronger rating and balancing political risk with economic performance in their assessments.
