FBR Introduces AI-Based Customs Clearance & Risk Management System

Islamabad: On the directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has, for the first time in Pakistan's history, introduced an Artificial Intelligence-based Customs Clearance and Risk Management System.

According to Radio Pakistan, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, while chairing a meeting on FBR reforms in Islamabad, emphasized that FBR reforms are among the government's top priorities. By automating the tax system, the government aims to enhance transparency and efficiency. The meeting outlined that the new Risk Management System will employ AI and BOTs to estimate the cost and nature of goods during import and export processes. Initial tests of the system showed a performance improvement of over ninety-two percent.

The testing phase revealed that eighty-three percent more Goods Declarations (GDs) were identified for tax collection, and a substantial increase in GD clearance through the Green Channel was noted. This development is expected to introduce transparency, minimize human intervention, and facilitate business operations.

Prime Minister Sharif highlighted that the adoption of this technology-based system will streamline business processes and offer convenience to taxpayers. He noted that reduced human intervention will enhance system effectiveness, saving both time and resources. The Prime Minister also instructed that the new system be integrated and sustainable.
