Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari says concerted efforts are being made to achieve the target of eight to ten rupees per unit reduction in the electricity tariff in the next few months.Addressing a news conference in Islamabad, he highlighted efforts to reduce the cost of electricity generation, saying that the government is reviewing agreements with power plants and independent power producers (IPPs) through mutual understanding.He said that government has revisited agreements with five independent power producers through mutual consultations, which will help save four hundred and eleven billion rupees.The Minister said country's first Independent System Market Operator is being set up to pave the way for lowering the electricity prices and improve efficiency.Awais Leghari said efforts are being made to improve performance of power distribution companies and reduce line losses along with increasing usage of electricity in winters.Source: Radio Pakistan
