Asim Briefs Arab Group’s Envoys on South Asia’s Situation

New York: Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, briefed the Ambassadors and Permanent Representatives of the Arab Group on the prevailing regional situation in South Asia. During the meeting, he discussed Pakistan’s response to recent actions by India, emphasizing that it was a measured and proportionate exercise of its right to self-defense under the UN Charter.

According to Radio Pakistan, Ambassador Ahmad highlighted that India’s unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty was both provocative and escalatory, constituting a gross violation of international law and the UN Charter. He further expressed Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining the ceasefire and undertaking necessary measures to ensure de-escalation and regional stability.

Ambassador Ahmad also pointed out that the rhetoric from Indian leaders was inflammatory. He stressed that lasting peace in South Asia is unattainable without resolving the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with the UNSC resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
