Islamabad: Analysts have commended Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for raising the longstanding issues of Kashmir and Palestine during his meeting with US President Donald Trump. The discussions between the two leaders have been recognized as a significant step towards addressing these unresolved matters on the international stage.
According to Radio Pakistan, former diplomat Amb. Sajjad Haider emphasized that both Palestine and Kashmir have been persistent issues on the United Nations agenda since its inception. Haider expressed optimism that the Palestine issue may soon see resolution as it has reached a critical phase. During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz acknowledged President Trump as a proponent of peace, particularly in the context of the conflict between Pakistan and India. Haider criticized India for its stance on Kashmir, urging international powers to exert pressure for a resolution. He noted increasing international acknowledgment of the State of Palestine and the federation established to ta
ckle the issue. The Kashmir issue has gained international attention following India’s challenges in Marka e Haq, with the global community recognizing the untenability of the current situation. He further criticized the BJP’s policies for creating internal chaos in India and straining foreign relations.
Amb. A M Shahid, another former diplomat, highlighted the peak in Pakistan-US relations, evident from the honors bestowed upon Prime Minister Shehbaz and Field Marshal Asim Munir by President Trump in Washington. Shahid expressed confidence that the discussions would yield positive outcomes in tackling international and regional issues, including Gaza and Iran. He pointed out that Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine remain core unresolved issues at the United Nations General Assembly. Shahid expects Prime Minister Shehbaz to address these issues at the UNGA session, emphasizing their importance for sustainable regional peace while also touching upon terrorism.
