Kabul: Analysts have commended Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi's recent visit to Kabul, expressing hope for improved Pakistan-Afghanistan relations. Dr. Abdullah Gul, a defense analyst, noted the significance of Naqvi's visit in the context of past efforts by Pakistani officials to address terrorism concerns emanating from Afghan soil. Despite previous visits by top Pakistani officials, terrorism incidents in Pakistan, particularly in Balochistan and Khyber Pukhtunkhwa, have seen a significant rise. Gul highlighted the complex dynamics involving Afghan leaders, noting the historical ties between Pakistan and the Haqqani family and the influence of external pressures, notably from China.According to Radio Pakistan, during the visit, Afghan Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani welcomed Mohsin Naqvi, and both parties engaged in discussions focusing on strengthening bilateral ties and combating terrorism. Dr. Munawar Hussain, an international relations expert, emphasized the role of the Tehrik-i-Talib an Pakistan (TTP) in regional terrorism, noting its expansion beyond Afghanistan and Pakistan to areas like Bangladesh. The discussions also touched upon Afghanistan's agreement to prevent TTP attacks on Pakistan, with China playing a crucial role in facilitating this understanding.The visit also revisited the longstanding issue of the Durand Line, a contentious border matter between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Hussain explained that Afghanistan has historically used this issue to exert pressure on Pakistan, despite the lack of support from the tribal people for joining Afghanistan. He advocated for pragmatic discussions on bilateral trade and connectivity to foster better relations. Additionally, Hussain pointed out the presence of other banned outfits and criminals on Afghan soil, highlighting the need for Afghanistan to address these concerns to gain international recognition and support.The visit, though still early to gauge outcomes, is seen as a potential step forward, especially with China's involvem ent and its investment interests tied to regional stability.
