Amir Muqam Calls for Urgent Launch of UNHCR Climate Fund

Geneva: Minister for States and Frontier Regions Amir Muqam has reiterated Pakistan’s call for the urgent start of the UNHCR Climate Resilience Fund and other financing mechanisms to support countries most affected by climate change. He was addressing the Executive Committee of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Geneva.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Minister emphasized that Pakistan remains one of the most climate vulnerable countries. He noted that the nation has endured repeated climate-induced calamities, including this year’s devastating floods, which have displaced millions, destroyed infrastructure, and resulted in significant economic losses.

The Minister also highlighted Pakistan’s hosting of more than four million Afghan nationals for over four decades. He stressed the need to facilitate their safe and dignified return to Afghanistan.
