Ahsan Iqbal Directs Ministries to Develop New Projects for CPEC Phase-II

Islamabad: Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal has instructed relevant ministries to develop new projects under the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and to accelerate the provision of facilities in Special Economic Zones. Ahsan Iqbal was presiding over the first review meeting following the 14th Joint Cooperation Committee CPEC session in Islamabad.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Minister highlighted that priority should be assigned to projects that yield lasting and positive impacts on public life. The second phase of CPEC encompasses sectors such as agriculture, industry, people-to-people cooperation, and information technology. Ahsan Iqbal stated that CPEC Phase-II aims to bolster the private sector’s role and concentrate on youth skill development.

He further noted that this phase would enhance the foundation of Pakistan-China relations. CPEC projects are contributing to employment, investment, and technology transfer, while Phase-II is expected to bring about significant and sustainable growth in Pakistan’s exports.

Ahsan Iqbal also pointed out that Pakistan’s Five Es are being aligned with China’s Five Corridors to ensure a seamless development trajectory. He emphasized that the robust ties between Pakistan and China promise economic recovery and long-term stability.

The Planning Minister mentioned that the desalination plant constructed with China’s assistance has markedly improved the water supply in Gwadar. He assured that just as Phase-I of CPEC was successfully completed with consistency, Phase-II would be executed with equivalent spirit and dedication.

Additionally, Ahsan Iqbal noted that the Chinese model would be implemented under the Livelihood Corridor for the development of Pakistan’s underdeveloped regions. A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed with the Development Research Center, which will aid Pakistan in boosting its exports and refining policy formulation.
