Islamabad, May 15, 2014 (PPI-OT): Mr. Zahid Hamid, Federal Minister for science and technology, chaired a high level meeting regarding the arrangements of the forth coming international conference of Standard Metrology Institute of Islamic Conference (SMIIC), a center of excellence on sound mechanism for harmonization of halal standards among the Organization of Islamic Cooperation(OIC) .
Pir Bakhsh jamali, Director General, Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA), a subsidiary organization of the ministry, briefed about the arrangements of the 6th meeting of SMIIC General Assembly and 8th meeting of Board of Director and World Halal Assembly. It was apprised that more than one hundred delegates from forty SMIIC member countries and other international or regional organizations are expected to participate in the three day event, which starts from 2nd June, 2014 in Islamabad.
The Minister showed great satisfaction on the overall arrangements of the forth coming conference and said that being a Muslim country, we have to utilize all our efforts for getting maximum benefit in enhancing the Halal trade within the Islamic countries.
Prior to the meeting the Federal Minister distributed cheques among the winners of Essay competition being conducted by PSQCA for Quaid-e-Azam Standards Award among the students of Schools, Colleges and Universities.
Mr. Karman Ali Qureshi, Federal Secretary and senior officials of the ministry were also present in the meeting.
