Srinagar, January 30, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Human Rights Commission has issued a fresh compliance notice to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shopian over the killing of youth, Shahid Manzoor Mir. The Chairperson of the commission, Justice (retd) Bilal Nazki had earlier issued notice to the two officials, asking them to submit the detailed compliance report before the commission on Tuesday (January 29, 2019). The commission while providing opportunity for response to the SSP Shopian directed him to file his detailed report by March 22 this year.
The JandK Police had claimed in its report submitted to the commission that a youth, Shahid Manzoor Mir, who was killed during a cordon and search operation in November last year in Shopian was an associate of a ‘militant’, while as the report of the Tehsildar Shopian had stated that the deceased was a civilian and a labourer by profession.
The contradictory reports have come in response to a petition filed in the Human Rights Commission by rights activist, Muhammad Ahsan Untoo. Ahsan Untoo in a statement said that the notice pertained to the killing of two youth including Shahid Manzoor Mir, a resident of Khudpora Shopian, who was killed at his house and police claimed that he was an associate of another killed youth, Irfan Ahmed Butt, of Bundzoo area of Pulwama.
The petitioner had claimed before the commission that civilian Shahid Manzoor Mir was killed deliberately by the troops and dubbed as a ‘militant’ later, despite the fact that he had no adverse report against him. The petitioner urged the commission to investigate the case and order for compensation to the victim’s family.
