Yasin Malik given human rights award

Islamabad, December 13, 2015 (PPI-OT): Muhammad Yasin Malik, Chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, has been presented a human rights award in recognition of his being a champion of the freedom movement of Kashmir and human rights. The award was presented at a function in Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, and hosted by the Pakistan-based International Human Rights Organization in connection with the International Human Rights Day, Kashmir Media Service said quoting Srinagar-based daily, Greater Kashmir.

The former Chief Justice of Pakistan, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry presented the award, which was received on Malik’s behalf by his daughter, Raziya Sultana, a minor, who attended the ceremony with her mother, Mushaal Hussein Mullick.

“Durable regional peace is impossible until Indian occupational forces cease committing human rights violations in Indian-held Kashmir,” Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said on the occasion. The award came on the day Yasin Malik was sitting on 30-hour long token hunger strike in Srinagar against human rights violations in Kashmir.
