World Wildlife Fund Eco Internship Draws Students at National University of Sciences & Technology

Islamabad: WWF – Pakistan has launched the winter session of the organization’s Eco-Internship Programme at NUST in collaboration with the University’s Environment Club. The Programme will last for 4 weeks and will be attended by student of various University departments, consisting of students from bachelors, masters, M.Phil and P.hD.

The purpose of the programme is to create environmental awareness amongst the younger generation, inculcate civic responsibilities and sensitize students towards the environment they are living in and will be working in.

The Programme was inaugurated by the Associate Dean and Head Of Department of Institute of Environment Science and Engineering (IESE), Dr. Ishtiaq qazi. NUST Faculty came out in full force to support the initiative and encourage the students. Speaking at the occasion, Aniq Umair Samuels Eco Internship Co-ordinator for North Region said, “the scope of this Programme has gone beyond school-level interaction.

With inclusion of older students who have a broader perspective on issues of environment, sustainability, development, climate change and urbanization, we are aiming to partner with them, rather than teaching them the basics.”

The first session was attended by more than 150 students. Field activities, research and surveys have been lined up, and many guest speakers have been invited to participate in the continuous sessions, including renowned ornithologist and author of the definitive Bird Guide of Pakistan, Professor Z. B. Mirza.
