World Population Day remind us of grave social, economic, political, environmental challenges associated with population explosion in countries like Pakistan: President

Islamabad, July 10, 2014 (PPI-OT): World Population Day serves to remind us of the grave social, economic, political, environmental and other challenges associated with population explosion in countries like Pakistan. The observance of this day therefore is an occasion to raise greater awareness about these challenges and to focus our attention towards addressing them in a holistic manner.

It is a matter of concern that the rapid growth of population in the developing countries which are already faced with resource constraints has raised some serious issues vis-à-vis sustainable development. The emergent challenges therefore calls for concerted efforts, at individual as well as collective level, so to check the rapid population growth rate.

It is heartening to note that the theme for this year, Invest in Young People today, to ensure a Bright Future calls for greater investments on the youth so as to enable and prepare them face the challenges of future. Government of Pakistan accords top priority to youth issues and is determined to provide all facilities to enable youth to shoulder their responsibilities.

On this day, I would call upon all segments of society to join hands in creating greater awareness about the issues of population growth and also about the need for making greater investments in the young people to provide them a platform and a conducive environment to exploit their talents, excel in life and transform this world into peaceful planet for the human beings.

I wish success to all Governments, organizations and individuals who are making efforts to address the issues of population.
