Islamabad, May 20, 2014 (PPI-OT): On the directions of Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA), Maroof Afzal, work on up-gradation plan of CDA Nursery has been initiated. The up-gradation plan of CDA Nursery includes in house production of different species of flowering as well as fruit plants.
It also includes bringing more land under cultivation and establishment of state-of-the-art green house to save the plants / saplings from environmental severity. In this regard, Member Environment, CDA visited CDA Nursery in Chak Shahzad to review the progress about the up-gradation plan.
Member Environment examined the growth of different species of plants and production capability of the nursery. On this occasion officers of Environment Wing and Incharge CDA Nursery were also present. Member Environment was briefed about the CDA Nursery and apprised that CDA Nursery covers an area of 35 acres of land.
He was informed that CDA Nursery was playing vital role to enhance the green cover of the Federal Capital and growing different species of seasonal flowers including Petunia F-1, Pansy F-1, Zinnia F-1, Mari Gold F-1, etc and plant trees including Feedle Wood, Amaltas, Jacoranda, Kachnar, Sukh Chan etc. Besides, different house plants, shrubs, creepers and ground covers are also produced in the Nursery. It is catering to the needs of seasonal flowers as well as flowering and fruit trees to be planted in the city.
Member Environment was further informed that CDA Nursery meets the requirements of indigenous flowering and fruit plants during the Spring and Monsoon Tree Plantation campaigns. CDA Nursery ensures the production and growth of all kinds of plants on scientific methods to secure these plants from environmental changes, he was informed.
Member Environment directed the Incharge CDA Nursery to ensure the production and growth of indigenous plants particularly the fruit plants. Member Environment said that in line with the directions of Chairman CDA, CDA Nursery should be upgraded and be made fully functional to enhance its production capacity to meet the requirements of greenery in the Capital city.
Chairman CDA has said that CDA Nursery covers a vast land, which should not only be restricted for particular species of plants but production capacity and growth of both the flowering and fruit plants should be enhanced and new species be introduced.
He further added that nursery should be upgraded in line with modern scientific technology research. Such plants should be produced, which play pivotal role for purification of environment, he added. He said that CDA Nursery should not only meet the requirements of tree plantation campaigns in the city but it should also meet the requirements of all kinds of plants for other institutions.
He said that while growing different species of plants, environmental conditions should be kept in mind to ensure maximum survival of plants for an effective green cover of the Federal Capital.
