Karachi, December 14, 2012 (PPI-OT): The work on Karachi Mass Transit Programme will commence in the year 2013, which includes bus rapid transit, monorail and circular railway. This was stated by Sindh Governor of Dr Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan, here on Thursday while talking to the participants of the 42nd PN Staff Course under the auspices of the Pakistan Navy War College Lahore at the Governor House.
The governor pointed out that the project was being given final shape and its implementation would start in 2013. With the completion of the mass transit programme, modern transport facilities would be available to the Karachiites, he maintained.
Dr Ebad also informed the members of the delegation that there was immense potential for investment in the province and that the government had taken a number of steps for provision of conducive environment in that regard and positive results were coming to the fore as a result of such measures.
He said that the government had also undertaken important steps to curb kidnapping for ransom in Karachi and positive results had come to the fore in that connections as well. That can be gauged from the fact that from November to date, 17 cases of kidnapping for ransom were registered and 16 of these were resolved, he added.
He pointed out that there were fears of terrorist activities during Muharram but with the measures taken by the government, the terrorists could not succeed in their ulterior motives and Ashura passed off peacefully.
The governor said that the Rangers were carrying out targeted raids for controlling law and order situation in the metropolis. He stated that the system of community policing had been introduced to provide protection to the traders.
