Islamabad, April 13, 2013 (PPI-OT): Product modification and diversification is need of hour to achieve economy of scale and enhancement of trade. This was stated by Mrs. Rukhsana Jehangir Vice President Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) during her visit to South Punjab Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SPWCCI). In her address, she emphasized the strengthening of women entrepreneurship which is one of the most negligible areas in Pakistan.
There is lack of awareness among women entrepreneurs regarding market access, identification of opportunities, quality assurance, productivity, business information, benefits of branding, networking etc and to overcome these problems, there is a need to create awareness based programme and to provide equal opportunities to women in order to increase their contribution in national economic activity, she stated. At present, our women entrepreneurs are facing difficulties particularly in the areas of finance, source of raw material as well as marketing.
She assured her full support from platform of FPCCI and affirmed that she will formulate trade delegation soon specifically for those countries wherein there is a huge potential of our traditional products like jewelry, fashion designing, handicrafts, leather garments, readymade garment etc so that they can have exposure and enhanced trade opportunities.
She also emphasized the women entrepreneurs to register themselves in tax net in order to get benefits of government schemes. She said that her aim is to make women entrepreneurs capable to play their due role in national development, face competitive environment and explore new business frontiers.
She further added that she has formulated a working plan and in this connection visiting all the Women Chambers and institutions in order to get the feedback and suggestions of Women entrepreneur for expanding their business activities from Micro to Small scale and small scale to medium level.
The meeting was attended by eighty businesswomen belonged to different businesses from Southern Punjab. In reply to her address, many women demanded that FPCCI should facilitate and support women entrepreneurs and organize training programme related to technical and managerial skills of women which is currently the weak part of women entrepreneurs.
They further stated that the unavailability of finance is a main hindrance in women entrepreneurship and in this respect FPCCI should assist the women entrepreneurs in getting collateral free and low cost financial assistance from banks. Moreover, there should be reserved quota for women entrepreneurs, in the exhibitions of FPCCI, they added.
The women further demanded that FPCCI should assist them in market access and help in getting subsidy from TDAP so that more women be encouraged to set up their own business ventures. The participants also demanded that seminars, lectures, group roundtable discussions, e-business sessions, and study excursions programme should be organized to create awareness and to provide right direction to women. They termed that these sessions are very important for crucial leadership skills, business management, and methods to strengthen ties with fellow women entrepreneurs.
