Karachi: National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has determined tariff for wind power at PKR 13.96 / unit for the first 2 years of operation, which would be lowered down to PKR 14.66/unit for 3-5 years, then PKR 14.47 during 6-9 years and finally to PKR 5.735/ unit from the 11th year of operation.
According to Alfalah Securities Limited, the reference tariff has been calculated on the basis of net annual benchmark energy generation of 138.7GWh at an annual net plant capacity factor of 31.99% for installed capacity of 49.5MW. This tariff does not account for adjustment for carbon emission reduction receipts which would be distributed between the power purchaser and producer as per the prevailing government policy.
The tariff is applicable for a period of 20 years, commencing from the commercial operations date. The government has issued licences to nine parties for generating 50MW each which include Fauji Foundation, Fauji Fertilizer Bin Qasim, Islamic Infrastructure Fund, Tapal Group, Gul Ahmed Energy, Metro Power Company, Younus Brothers Group, Sapphire Energy and Three Gorges.
