Weather and technical reasons kept Pakistan International Airlines schedule under pressure and flights were cancelled or re-scheduled

Karachi, July 17, 2012 (PPI-OT): Weather and technical reasons kept PIA schedule under pressure and flights were cancelled or re-scheduled. PIA spokesman said here on Tuesday.

Due to en route bad weather in the Northern region PIA flights PK 660, PK 661, PK 607, PK 608 to Peshawar, Chitral and Gilgit were cancelled.

Technical reasons forced PIA to reschedule PK 743 Karachi-Madinah which took off at 7:00 AM Tuesday morning.

Since the same aircraft had to be utilized for PK 266 for Karachi-Dhaka, the departure of which was changed to 10:50 AM and operated with another aircraft, consequently PK 759 Lahore-Jeddah to depart at 8:30 PM. Further, PK 300 Karachi-Islamabad was delayed due to technical reasons and PK 301 which was supposed to leave Islamabad at 10:00 AM was affected due to ground power failure and the departure had to be rescheduled for 2:20 PM so that it should reach Karachi after the opening of the Runway at Jinnah Terminal which remains closed from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM for cleaning purposes. The passengers were taken to the lounge where they were looked after by PIA Customer Services Staff.

Consequently another Karachi-Islamabad flight PK 308 rescheduled from 4:00PM to 6:00PM therefore PK 309 Islamabad–Karachi rescheduled for 9:00 PM. Similarly the departure of PK 304 Karachi-Lahore changed to 5:00 PM.

The passengers booked on these flights who had provided their phone and cell numbers were kept informed about the changes in expected times of arrivals and departures through PIA call centre. PIA Spokesman concluded.–
