Srinagar, February 27, 2014 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, former bureaucrat and chairman of National Commission for Minorities, Wajahat Habibullah, has demanded a fresh investigation into the Kunanposhpora mass rape case. Wajahat Habibullah, who was acting as the divisional commissioner of Kashmir in 1991 when the mass rape perpetrated by Indian Army’s 4 Rajputana Rifles in Kunanposhpora in a media interview said that the Indian government used his name as a defence against the international outcry over the incident.
“If there is still an opportunity to re-probe this case effectively, it should be taken up,” he said, adding that the Indian government had deleted a crucial portion of his report filed at that time. He said that the then governor, GC Saxena had dissuaded him from visiting the village. The incident took place in the intervening night of February 22-23 when a unit of 4 Rajputana Rifles entered into the villages and raped over 100 women.
