Lahore, May 27, 2014 (PPI-OT): Wagah expansion is need of hour and an early execution of this project would not only help provide extended tourism facilities to both the local and foreign tourists but would also enable it to serve as a major trade corridor in South Asia.
This was stated by Brigadier Najib Aamir Gull while speaking at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Tuesday. The LCCI President Engineer Sohail Lashari, LCCI Senior Vice President Mian Tariq Misbah, Vice President Kashif Anwar, Wing Commander Asher Khan and Architect Abdul Rehman also spoke on the occasion.
The Brigadier said that the Wagah expansion plan was evolved keeping in the inflow of both local and foreign tourists and an increase in trade and economic activities. He said that it was decided that the patronage of this project would given to the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Brigadier Najib said that a consortium of leading private sector groups would be constituted under the umbrella of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce of Industry to monitor the whole project.
He said that the role of the private sector in the nation-building is always very important because without its due participation it was near to impossible to achieve desired goal.
Speaking on the occasion, the LCCI President Engineer Sohail Lashari said that all the segments of the society would have to put in their collective efforts to reach the destination of progress and prosperity.
While paying rich tributes to the Armed Forces for their sacrifices for the cause of peace in this country, the LCCI President said smiles on our faces are only because of the sacrifices of our Armed Forces. He said that that the private sector would not stay behind and extend all possible help to all nation building projects.
The LCCI President said that all the institutions should be on the same page if we really wanted to put the country on path to progress and prosperity. He said that the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry would share Wagah Expansion plan with all the leading members and seek their contribution for the early execution of this project.
Giving his presentation, Wing Commander Asher Khan threw light on the need for the expansion in Wagah stadium. He said that the flag lowering ceremony was started in October 1947 and during all this period it continued to attract large number of visitors and presently it has a seating capacity of 8000 people. He said that initial work on this project had already been completed.
