Islamabad, August 19, 2013 (PPI-OT): The US Ambassador Mr. Richard Olson called on the Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan here in Islamabad today.
The Federal Minister and the Ambassador discussed the issues of mutual interest including the US Secretary of State, Senator John Kerry’s last visit of Pakistan.
The Minister said that Pakistan intends to further strengthen its relations with US based on mutual respect and understanding. He was hopeful that Senator Kerry‘s recent visit to Pakistan would prove fruitful in further strengthening economic, political and strategic relationship between the two countries. Senator Kerry is well recognized in Pakistan because of his positive contributions towards Pakistan and the PML-N has the experience of good positive working relationship with Senator Kerry when it was in opposition, the Minister added.
The US Ambassador stressed the need for the resumption of the Strategic Dialogue between Pakistan and America as agreed in the Senator Kerry’s visit of Pakistan.
The Minister said that he would take all the possible steps for early resumption of the Strategic Dialogue as it was in the interest of both countries.
The Minister shared the efforts that Ministry of Interior was carrying out to counter militancy and terrorism in Pakistan. The basic features of forthcoming National Security Policy and Counter Terrorism Strategy also came under discussion.
The Minister said that it was impossible for any nation to fight terrorism without having any well-rehearsed and coherent National Security Policy. He expressed confidence that the forth-coming Internal Security Policy followed later by the National Security Policy would go a long way in tackling the scourge of terrorism in Pakistan and it would be announced in coming few weeks.
