UN asked to appoint special rapporteur on Kashmir

Srinagar, March 19, 2014 (PPI-OT): The Kashmiri leaders while addressing the general debate of the 25th session of United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva have called upon UNHRC to appoint a special Rapporteur for Kashmir, where freedoms and human rights have deteriorated considerably in the last four years.

It was the busiest day on Wednesday for the leaders, who addressed the Human Rights Council and chaired side panel discussions on the situation in occupied Kashmir. Altaf Hussain Wani, Shamim Shawl and Sardar Amjad Yousaf Khan addressed the session.

Shamim Shawl also chaired a side panel on Women in Conflict, while Kashmiri women leaders and human rights defenders, Zamrooda Habib and Masooda Bano, addressed the audience via Skype from Srinagar. Indian, French, Moroccan and Dutch women rights activists, including Daniela Donges, Joyce Anderson and Sadani Malinie also addressed the panel.
