Training Workshop for Evaluators of National Business Education Accreditation Concludes

Islamabad: A three-day training workshop for the evaluators of the National Business Education Accreditation (NBEAC), organized by the Quality Assurance Agency, Higher Education Commission concluded at Islamabad. The participants of the workshop were mostly senior faculty members and deans of public and private sector universities.

Mr. Pierre Mayaudon, Deputy Head of European Union in Pakistan was the chief guest in the closing ceremony. While Dr. Christopher Terrasse, Associate Director (Projects) European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD), Brussels was the resource person. Dr. Christophe is a Professor of Marketing in HEC, France and also working on various projects of EFMD across the globe.

The purpose of the workshop was to improve the relevant skills of Programme Evaluators in undertaking accreditation inspection based on prescribed standards, criteria and procedures, and to compare the NBEAC framework of accreditation with international accreditation frameworks and share experiences on best practices for accreditation of business degree programmes and their effectiveness in quality enhancement.

“The workshop proved to be an excellent opportunity for all the participants and the resource person to share their valuable academic experiences to make the external evaluation process more transparent, consistent and credible,” remarked a participant.

Workshop provided the insight of European Accreditation models and the best practices of international accreditation bodies. There was a comparison between NBEAC framework and EQUIS framework. Participants worked in groups to identify the questions to be asked during the peer-review visit to collect evidence to verify the information provided in Self Assessment Report of the Business Schools.

This activity allowed NBEAC to develop a library of potential questions that evaluators can ask during peer review visit. Another group activity was to rate W, X, Y and Z levels to the possible answers and supporting evidence provided. Guidelines on compiling the Peer Review Report were also provided in the final session of workshop.

Dr. Sohail Naqvi, Executive Director, HEC said that HEC has developed its quality assurance criteria based on international standards compatibility. “The process of programme accreditation by NBEAC is the key element to enhance the quality of business education,” he added.

Dr. Hasan Sohaib Murad, Chairman NBEAC briefed the audience about the significance of the workshop and thanked the evaluators and resource person for their interest and participation.
