Karachi: Minister Information Shazia Marri said that no words of consolation could satisfy the bereaved families of Bhoja Air tragedy. Marri said in her statement today that such tragic accidents can never be forgotten and the sorrow was being felt by the entire nation. “Pakistan is a nation of strong people and we’ve experienced many catastrophes but this one is extremely painful,” said an emotional Marri.
Minister Information Shazia Marri, who was present at the Jinnah International Airport of Karachi at a time when the family members of the plane crash victims were waiting to leave for Islamabad to collect dead bodies of their loved ones, said that it was inappropriate to draw conclusion regarding the cause of Bhoja plane crash and it was best to wait for the inquiry report which was in process.
Shazia Marri informed that President Asif Ali Zardari had given special instructions regarding the completion of inquiry report at the earliest and had directed the authorities to take all measures to facilitate the affected families.
She further said that the inquiry report of previously occurred tragedy of Air Blue plane crash was delayed because of the delayed recovery of the black box but in the current situation, the black box was said to have been recovered already.
President had directed PIA authorities to ensure free of charge transportation of dead bodies to their respective destinations and no negligence or failure in performance of concerned authorities would be tolerated.
Shazia Marri said that the Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah had assigned his team of cabinet members, mpas and party workers to be present at all the post tragedy stages and ensure complete cooperation with the bereaved family members.
She said that the Government provided air tickets to one family member of every victim’s family but additional support was provided by the party where ever required. Marri said that it was heartening to see how everyone regardless of any blood relation was present at the airport just to console and support the affected families.
Shazia Marri appreciated the efforts of other political parties and their workers along with various other individuals who played an effective role in handling the situation at Karachi and Islamabad airports and the crash site.
Commenting on Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s statement regarding the inquiry, Shazia Marri regretted what she termed his “lack of human compassion and predisposition to exploit tragedies for cheap political point scoring,” adding that the PPP government’s impartial attitude was evident by the inquiry conducted into the crash of Air Blue flight which was an airline owned by a PML-N parliamentarian. She said that the federal authorities promptly reacted to the tragedy and executed an active and timely operation at the crash site for recovery of the dead bodies.
Shazia Marri said that the nation was moved by the tragic stories of every victim of the crash. “The pain of losing the only son, five members of one family, a 22 year old son, an elderly father, newly wedded brother and his wife was simply debilitating,” lamented Marri. She said that the best we could do for the departed souls and their families was pray and conduct prompt inquiries into the reason behind the crash.
Shazia Marri said that while life and death were inevitable, private airlines could also not be absolved of either their responsibility or the accountability of their safety measures, conduct of their personnel and handling of such a catastrophe.
