Finance Minister chaired a meeting of ECC

Finance Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar here on Thursday chaired the meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee of the Cabinet (ECC).

The meeting approved the proposal put forth by the Ministry of Water & Power for authorizing the PPIB to proceed for award of the Project for establishment of 300 MW power plant at Gawadar to China Communication Construction Company under Rule 5 of the Public Procurement Rules 2004.

Agreement on Pak-China Economic Corridor Energy Project Cooperation in Nov. 2014, among other provisions also provided for establishment of this coal based project to be developed at Gawadar, Balochistan. The Chinese side subsequently nominated China Communication Construction Company (CCCC) to invest in the project to which the Pakistan side had expressed agreement.

The ECC, it may be mentioned had set up a committee in its last meeting under the chairmanship of Minister for Law to have a detailed review of the proposal put forth by the Ministry of Water & Power. The said committee put forth its report during the meeting and endorsed the recommendation of the Ministry. The Committee was informed that Environmental Impact Assessment will be carried out and assessed by the Provincial authorities as per the law in vogue.

16 Arab heads of state attending Jordan Summit

The Dead Sea (IINA) � Sixteen kings, emirs and presidents are participating the 28th Arab Summit being held near the Dead Sea, while five countries are being represented at the level of senior officials.

The leaders attending the summit are: Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman of Saudi Arabia, King of Bahrain Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir, Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi, Yemeni President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi, Lebanese President Michel Aoun, Djiboutian President Ismail Omar Guelleh, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Somali President Mohammed Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and President of Comoros Osman Al-Ghazali.

Also attending the summit are: Fayez Al-Sarraj, chairman of the Presidential Council of Libya's Government of National Accord (GNA); Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice president and prime minister of the United Arab Emirates and ruler of Dubai; Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi; Head of the Algerian National Assembly Abdelkader Ben Saleh; Moroccan Foreign Minister Salaheddine Mezouar; and Asa'ad bin Tariq Al Said, Oman's deputy prime minister for international relations affairs and special representative for Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said.

Syria is absent from the summit despite hoisting its flag due to the freezing of its membership by a previous decision of the Council of the Arab League in 2012.
