To improve education sector we need to work on war footings: Minister

Islamabad, May 22, 2014 (PPI-OT): Minister of state for ET and SHE Eng. Mohammad Bligh-Ur-Rehman while chairing the first meeting of the advisory committee of the ministry of Education said that education and training are the most important without which any nation cannot progress .He said education plays pivotal role in the development of a society and to educate the children of Pakistan is the constitutional and religiously duty of the Government.

The advisory committee consisted upon the prominent educationists who have the vast experience in the field of education. The Minister put before the participants the actual situation of the country and said that the state of affairs in Pakistan is not going well.

He told them that Pakistan has the highest number of the out of school children, which is very threatening and needs immediate attention for improvement. He informed the participants that Pakistan has the second highest number of the out of school children. Dropout rate from the school is very high which has different reasons.

The Minister also told the honorable educationists that though situation in the field of tertiary education is better than the primary and secondary education yet is far from satisfactory as only 7.5 % of the population could get access to that. He also discussed with the participants the Madressah education which does not include the formal education. The Minister also discussed with them the importance of the technical education.

Minister of state appreciated the spirit of the members of the advisory committee and assign it the role of a think tank to improve the overall functioning of the education system and ensure implementation of Government’s Education Plan, Strategy and Vision.

The minister divided the committee in the sub committees as per the educational experience of the members and assigns them the different tasks. The advisory committee through its sub committees will help the ministry in achieving its Goals by overseeing, guiding and evaluating the performance of each sub sector. Towards the end of the meeting the minister opened the floor for discussion and all the participants gave valuable suggestions.
