The ministry of human rights initiated consultative process by holding joint workshop on Universal Periodic Report 2012 in collaboration with UN on 15th and 16th November in Islamabad

Islamabad: The Ministry of Human Rights has initiated consultative process by holding the two days workshop on UPR (Universal Periodic Report 2012) in collaboration with UN on 15th and 16th November in Islamabad.

The process has brought together the Government’s approach on the subject and the inputs by the participants from Civil Society, NGOs and International Community of donors. It is worth noticing that this is the 1st Report that the Ministry of Human Rights is going to prepare in fulfilling international commitment.

The Participants in the workshop came forward with suggestions and recommendations for which this consultation and more such consultations would be held at the Provincial Headquarters with participation from District and Tehsil level. The purpose of this participatory process was to prepare a report truly representative to the United Nations which is an obligation of Pakistan.

The Advisor to PM on Human Rights Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar at the very opening session expressed his intention to make report factual and objective reflecting the state of Human Rights in a realistic manner.

The closing session was chaired by Mrs. Batool Iqbal Qureshi, the Secretary Ministry of Human Rights, who appreciated the wholesome and encompassing recommendations emerging out of consultation in preparing robust report and expressed hope that the ministry along with the Civil Society and stakeholders would play its role as a catalyst in heightening awareness of Human Rights.
