Ten companies participating in Africa Health Expo at Johannesburg from 29-31, May, 2014

Karachi, May 29, 2014 (PPI-OT): Ten companies under the banner of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) are participating in Africa Health Expo, which is being held at Johannesburg, South Africa from 29-31, May, 2014. This is the largest exhibition of health related items in African Continent and it is being organized since 2010. This is the first participation of TDAP in this exhibition, wherein, 17 countries including Germany, France, Brazil, China, India, and Turkey are participating in addition to 200 exhibitors from across the globe.

This participation is pursuant to Africa Plan of the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan. TDAP has carefully selected the participants which represent surgical, pharmaceutical and emergency services sectors. Pakistani exports are increasing in Sub-Saharan African region and this exhibition will further give a boost to the exports of Pakistani healthcare related products.

Sub-Saharan Africa accounts for 11 percent of the world’s population, yet bears 24% of the global disease burden. Sub-Saharan Africa’s improving economic performance means the demand among all sectors of society for health care is poised to increase reaching a market value of $35 billion by 2016.

This boom in demand and resultant growth has resulted in massive opportunities for people involved in the healthcare industry. With an estimated 500,000 – 650,000 hospital beds to be built in the next decade, and the resulting demand in hospital equipment, medical devices and pharmaceuticals the healthcare market in the sub-Saharan African continent is poised for substantial growth.

South Africa has imports of around US$ 6 billion in medical equipments and pharmaceuticals products; therefore Pakistan is converging efforts in this market to secure a larger share. Surgical Instrument Manufacturers and Exporters Association of Pakistan is also planning to organize a delegation to South Africa in October, 2014 to study the market.
