Beijing, February 15, 2015 (PPI-OT): Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs Syed Tariq Fatemi held in-depth discussions with Vice Administrator of Chinese National Energy Administration, sponsors of mega energy projects and representatives of Chinese banks in Beijing.
An array of projects were discussed during the meeting including those on hydro, solar,wind power and coal fired power plants (including those planned at Thar in Pakistan). Syed Tariq Fatemi also witnessed the signing of the Financial Agreement between the sponsors of Sachal Wind Power Project and the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC).
The project being part of the 21 energy projects that the government plans to implement through Chinese investment. The project had achieved financial closure. In his meetings, Mr. Tariq Fatemi impressed upon his interlocutors to fast track the processes to reach investment decisions at an early date so that the physical work on the projects could be started without delay.
The Chinese side conveyed their readiness to speedily implement the energy infrastructure projects to alleviate the acute shortage of electricity currently experienced in Pakistan. Syed Tariq Fatemi, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs is in Beijing, leading an energy delegation from Pakistan. Mr. Fatemi who is a member of the Cabinet Committee on Energy is accompanied by Mr. Mohammad Younas Dagha, Secretary, Ministry of Water and Power. The discussions are scheduled for tomorrow as well.
