Islamabad, December 23, 2015 (PPI-OT): The Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs (SAPM), Syed Tariq Fatemi, inaugurated the “Jinnah Library”, located in the Sahibzada Yaqub Khan Block of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Monday, 22 December 2015. Foreign Secretary Mr. Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry and other senior officers of the Ministry attended the inauguration.
Speaking on the occasion, the SAPM underscored the importance of book reading for diplomats and policy makers. He expressed confidence that the library would cater to the wide-ranging needs of the readers and book lovers in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He paid tribute to Pakistani diplomats who have authored books on foreign policy and international relations and encouraged everyone to follow their footsteps.
The library boasts a collection of more than 35,000 books on a host of topics including international relations, diplomacy, foreign policy, international law, international organizations, public policy, defence and strategic policy and history. The library also subscribes to a number of periodicals on these topics. In addition, well-known books on the history and culture of Pakistan are also part of the library collection.
A special feature of the library is a sizeable section with books authored by former and serving Pakistani diplomats including Foreign Ministers, Foreign Secretaries and Ambassadors. This special section includes books written by such well-known personalities as Mr. Sartaj Aziz, Mr. Gohar Ayub, Mr. Khurshid Kasuri, Mr. Agha Shahi, Mr. Jamshed Marker, Mr. Iqbal Akhund, Dr. Humayun Khan, Mr. Abdul Sattar, Mr. Shamshad Ahmed, Mr. Riaz Muhammad Khan, Mr. Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry, Mr. Sajjad Hyder, Raja Tridev Roy, Mr. Shahid Amin, Mr. Arshad Sami, Mr. Tayyab Siddiqi, Mr. Nazar Abbas, Mr. Mohammad Yunas, Syed Hassan Javed, Mr. Sanaullah, Mr. Afrasiab, Syeda Abida Hussain and Ms. Maleeha Lodhi.
