Srinagar, July 13, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani has been invited to attend Pugwash Conference being held from July 18-20 in Islamabad, Pakistan.
The spokesman of the forum led by Syed Ali Gilani in a statement in Srinagar said, the veteran leader received the invitation for the conference on July 11 in which several dignitaries from both sides of the Line of Control are expected to participate.
He said that although Syed Ali Gilani had received several offers to attend international conferences in the past also, but he was unable to attend any of them because of the non-availability of travel documents.
“Except for allowing him to perform Hajj pilgrimage, Syed Ali Gilani has not been allowed to travel abroad since 1980,” he said.
The spokesman said that even though the authorities were approached and reminded repeatedly, they kept mum over the matter and there had been no response from Omar Abdullah-led puppet administration on the issue.
He added that the passport office had so far failed to explain the reasons that under what provisions the travel documents of the veteran leader were being withheld.
While castigating the Indian government’s policy, the spokesman said that on one hand, the authorities claimed India to be world’s leading republic and on the other hand, people in Jammu and Kashmir were being deprived of basic civil rights.
