Islamabad, May 20, 2014 (PPI-OT): A 7-member delegation of Swedish Parliamentarians, led by Speaker of the Riksdag (Swedish Parliament) Mr. Per Westerberg met the Minister of State for Interior, Mr. Balighur Rahman here today.
Parliamentary Secretary for Interior, Ms. Marriyum Aurangzeb, Secretary Interior, Mr. Shahid Khan and Sweden’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Mr. Tomas Rosander were also present during the meeting. Matters relating to mutual interest, regional security and law and order came under discussion.
Talking to the delegation the Minister said that Pakistan attaches great significance to its relations with Sweden and the government is taking steps to build a broad based and substantive relationship between the two countries.
He thanked the Swedish government for supporting Pakistan on the GSP Plus and said that it will help Pakistan overcome its economic difficulties by creating better employment opportunities.
Mr. Balighur Rahman said that several Swedish companies like Ericsson, Tetra Pack and SAAB are household names in Pakistan. He said that other Swedish businesses may also benefit from the attractive investment opportunities offered by Pakistan.
He said that Sweden has been a destination of choice for Pakistani students due to the high standards of Swedish universities. Speaker of Riksdag said that trade and business cooperation between the two countries as well as tourism and exchange of delegations will promote better understanding between the two countries.
