Supreme Court of Pakistan disposed of 738 Cases in a week

Islamabad, January 04, 2013 (PPI-OT): The Supreme Court of Pakistan has disposed of 738 cases whereas 563 new cases have been instituted during the period from Saturday 29th December 2012 to Friday 4th January 2013. The backlog remains 19968.

The backlog in the apex Court on 29th December 2012 was 20143 cases. As 563 new cases were instituted during the period from Saturday 29th December 2012 to Friday 4th January 2013, the progressive total of pending cases as on 4th January 2013 comes to 20706 cases. Out of these, 738 cases were disposed of during the period from Monday 31st December 2012 to Friday 4th January 2013 the backlog on 4thJanuary 2013 remains19968 cases.

The Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr. Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry constituted various Benches at the principal Seat, Islamabad and Branch Registries to expedite the case hearings and clear the backlog.

The Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan and the Hon’ble Judges of Supreme Court remained committed to accelerate disposal of the cases and diminish the backlog. The Hon’ble Judges continued to hear the case in various benches with the aim to minimize the backlog and provide relief to the litigants.
