Karachi, February 16, 2015 (PPI-OT): Industrialists of S.I.T.E Association of Industry (SAI), in Karachi staged a protest at SSGCL Office, Karachi on Monday, 16th February, 2015 due to severe shortage of gas and continuing low pressure of gas led by President, SAI, Muhammad Jawed Bilwani. Large number of industrialists accompanied by huge numbers of workers of SITE Industrial Area participated in the Protest.
Protesters holding black flags and placards urged for resuming proper and adequate gas supply without any interruption. The pressure of gas provided to the industries has been considerably low from the past several days that has halted work at the industries. The gas supply was cut short for 13 days in January well and 46 days since October 1, 2014, lamented Muhammad Jawed Bilwani President Site Association of Industry (SAI).
Despite the fact that the Sindh province produces 72% of natural gas, the SITE Industries are starving for gas which is a great dilemma and step motherly treatment towards SITE Industrial Area, specially because of the fact that they are largest foreign exchange earner in this Metropolitan City – Karachi.
He said that SITE Industrial Area is the oldest and largest Industrial Area of Pakistan where the first Gas Pipeline was laid just for the SITE Industries.
He said that without proper and adequate supply of gas to SITE Industries, the Industries will not be able to run their production and suffer imminent closure leading to mass unemployment of over 500,000 workers who are breadwinners for over 2.5 million people who hail from all over Pakistan and work in the SITE Industries Area.
Later Muhammad Jawed Bilwani and his delegation had a meeting with MD SSGCL, Khalid Rahman.
MD SSGCL in his announcement to the protest gathering made firm commitments that proper and adequate supply of gas would be made available to SITE Industries without any interruption and full flow of pressure on all days.
Further the MD SSGCL committed that gas connections of CNG Stations would be separated from gas pipelines of Industries in SITE Industrial Areas at the soonest with a separate pipeline for CNG Stations.
On these firm assurances of MD SSGCL, Muhammad Jawed Bilwani President SAI ended the protest gathering with the hope that the problems faced by SITE Industries would be resolved forthwith by SSGCL. He said that follow up meeting with MD SSGCL for same would be held on Saturday, 21st February, 2015.
