Strike observed in Baramulla, protest in Handwara

Srinagar, April 25, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, complete shutdown was observed in Baramulla town to mark the fifth martyrdom anniversary of two Mujahid commanders. All shops and business establishments remained closed while attendance in the government offices was thin.

The commanders Imtiyaz Ahmad and Tanveer Ahmad were killed by Indian troops during a siege and search operation at Khawja Bagh in Baramulla on Tuesday.

Scores of youth visited the graveyard in old town Baramulla and offered prayers at their graves.

On the other hand, the Bar Association in Handwara town staged protest and demanded stern action against those involved in spurious drug scam. The Bar Association Handwara while marching from Court Complex to main chowk in the town had demanded immediate resignation of former Health Minister Sham Lal Sharma.

“The regime led by Omar Abdullah should expose all persons involved in the scam. People have been killed with fake drugs,” said the President Bar Association Handwara Ghulam Nabi Kabu.

Meanwhile, residents of Diver, Margi, Kakad-Patti and Lohar Mohalla in Kupwara district talking to media men said that a Major of 27-Rashtriya Rifles has made their lives miserable by harassing them on one or another pretext. “If excesses and disgracing women were not stopped they would be forced to leave the area,” the locals said.
