State subject status to refugees a conspiracy: KCSDS

Srinagar, January 13, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Kashmir Centre for Social and Developmental Studies (KCSDS), a civil society group, has taken strong exception to the proposed bill likely to be tabled in the so-called Kashmir Assembly in the upcoming session for granting state subject status to the refugees settled in the territory, mostly in Jammu.

The KCSDS in a statement issued after a meeting in Srinagar termed the bill as a conspiratorial move aimed at changing the demography of the occupied territory. It said that under the Article 370 of the Indian constitution, Jammu and Kashmir was a special state pending final settlement. It said that the State Subject Certificate was first introduced by Maharaja in April 20, 1927, to protect the identity of Kashmiris.

Any erosion of the State Subject Certificate will have disastrous consequences and will be fought against with blood by the Kashmiris, as this is their only protection against being swamped away by outsiders, the statement added. It said that besides being illegal and unconstitutional, the bill would be an assault on the identity of the Kashmiri people.
