Karachi: On the directive of Governor of Sindh Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan the city government started its cleanliness week on 28th September and performed cleaning work in six towns.
The sanitation staff during the first phase of the campaign lifted 12,880 tons of garbage and waste in Jamshed Town, Saddar Town, Keamari Town, Baldia Town and SITE Town and shifted it to land fill sites.
A total of 10,831 workers form city government and town administration took part in the operation with the help of 1579 vehicles. Fumigation work was also performed at various locations in these towns.
The second phase of the campaign was started on 3rd October which will continue till 7th October 2011. During the second phase another six towns including Liaquatabad, North Nazimabad, New Karachi, Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Orangi Town will be covered.
